Today, August 7, 2009, is the 67th anniversary of the American invasion of Guadalcanal. Sixty-seven years ago, the First Marine Division hit the beaches of Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and Gavutu Islands in the Solomons. This first major American offensive in World War II began one of the most hard-fought, bloodiest, and intense series of battles in military history. Beginning today and continuing up to and including December 7, 2009, I will commemorate this day and honor all veterans by contributing 10% of the net profits of all sales of autographed copies of my book to a needy veterans’ charity, the Disabled American Veterans.
