My book is now available in Kindle format!

My book, Morning of the Rising Sun: The Heroic Story of the Battles for Guadalcanal, is available on Amazon.com as an e-book. It is available in Kindle format that displays just like the printed version in a new technology Amazon.com calls "electronic paper." The Kindle is a device that Amazon.com offers the reader access to electronically published material downloaded from the internet or Amazon. If you want to know more this remarkable device, click here. If you already own a Kindle or equivalent device and wish to purchase my book in this new format, click here.

Of course, if you wish to purchase an autographed copy signed by me, you can purchase one from my web site or Amazon.com.

Readers can now enjoy my book from a small hand-held device no thicker than a pocket-size paperback.

A great gift idea for that person who loves to read military history.

Or buy a copy for yourself to enjoy!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

More news about my book

If some of you visited the Amazon.com web site to purchase a copy of my book and noticed that neither Amazon nor my publisher offers my book for sale, please do not be concerned about this development. My book is being updated with a few minor editorial changes that does not materially change the book in any way. During this update process, the book is temporarily unavailable from these sources. This step is necessary so that when a customer orders this book, that person gets most recent print available. After the book completes this update cycle, Amazon and BookSurge, LLC will offer it for sale once again.

A Successful Trip Autographing books!

I have just returned from a successful trip to Pittsburgh, PA to attend the annual reunion of one of my favorite naval veteran's groups -- Tin Can Sailors. They have purchased a number of my books. Since the proceeds of the sales of my books go to the coffers of that great group of people, I went there to help sell them by autographing any of my books they sold during that reunion.

And what a successful and fun trip that was. I want to thank Tin Can Sailors for allowing me to attend their convention. It certainly was a worthwhile venture for them and me.

Just how long is my book anyway?

I designed my book, Morning of the Rising Sun: The Heroic Story of the Battles for Guadalcanal, so that a reader has many places to temporarily stop reading and easily resume that activity from the place where he or she stopped. The book has 62 chapters so that each chapter is not too long (less than 20 pages on average) to read at one sitting. Each chapter has several identifiable breaks where a reader may lay the book down to do something else and easily pick up where they left off without missing my train of thought.

Feedback from readers says that the book is an easy read while even some have said that is a "page turner." I am sure that if you decide to buy my book and begin reading it, you'll find that to be true for you as well.

Labor Day is less one month away!!

Here comes Labor Day!!

The last American holiday of the summer is almost here -- just less than a month from now. For we Americans, this is a patriotic day to celebrate the accomplishments of the workers of our country.

And with that is an opportunity to celebrate this great day. What better way to do just that than to read a good book about world history about the Battles for Guadalcanal that occurred from August 1942 to February 1943. My book, Morning of the Rising Sun, is available from Amazon.com on this page or from my web site.

CACTUS - A Name from History

How many of you know about what Cactus meant to the Americans on Guadalcanal? The cactus plant has sharp needles on it that can cause serious injury to anyone who gets too near to it. Just how did Cactus affect World War II?

My book, Morning of the Rising Sun: The Heroic Story of the Battles for Guadalcanal, tells that story plus many others of how Guadalcanal became one of the turning points of the Pacific War in World War II. You can purchase your copy by going to my web site today.

Enjoy the summer!!

For those of us who live in our world's Northern Hemisphere, we now begin the lazy, hazy days of summer with plenty of time to relax at home or visit that place you always wanted to see. What better way to pass this summer by reading a good book! [grin]

I have received many notes from my book's readers saying how much they have enjoyed the history my book has in it. Why don't you join them and enjoy it yourself? Or, if there is a person you know who would like to read about the heroic deeds the men who were there did in those first difficult days of the Pacific War, what a great time for them to enjoy the summer with a copy of my book.

Just go to my web site to order your copy from places like Amazon.com, or you can purchase an autographed copy of my book here. Of course, for my friends who live in southern hemisphere, nothing I've said excludes you from doing the same thing. [double grin]

Happy summer, everyone.

Marking a six month checkpoint

Six months have passed since I published my new book, Morning of the Rising Sun: the Heroic Story of the Battles of Guadalcanal. Many poeple have purchased my work with great success. For those of you who have purchased my book, I sincerely thank you for your business. For those who have not, my book offers you an opportunity to get a greater insight to this critical part of our nation's and the world's history. As always, you can go my web site to know more about my book and that part of history it portrays.

As the birthday of our nation approaches, we should remember all those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. My book also celebrates those who, as Lincoln said, ". . . gave their last full measure of devotion. . .," to fight for what they sincerely believed. Guadalcanal was one of places in the world where that happened.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone.

Introducing my new book

I want to introduce my new book entitled: Morning of the Rising Sun: The Heroic Story of the Battles for Guadalcanal. It took more than six years to research, write, edit, and publish this book. It is the second work I have written about World War II in the Pacific. My first book: Afternoon of the Rising Sun: The Battle of Leyte Gulf was published in October 2001 and is out of print.

Guadalcanal was the first major offensive the Americans launched after the debacle at Pearl Harbor and carried many risks with it: insufficient supplies, not enough ships, and military neglect from the interwar years from 1919 to 1941. The strategic importance of this island is obvious to anyone who looks at a map of the Pacific Ocean. It lies in the direct path between the American mainland, the Hawaiian Islands, Australia, and New Zealand. When the Japanese began building an airfield on Guadalcanal, the Americans had to act and soon. On August 7, 1942 after much lobbying and cajoling of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by Admiral Ernest J. King, the American Chief of Naval Operations, the invasion happened.

What followed was six months of bloody and deadly warfare between the American Navy, Marines, and Army and the Japanese Navy and Army. Some of the most intense fighting between these two powers occurred. Every battle that happened foretold how vicious the fight for the Pacific would be.

The book tells the story from both sides' perspective and focus on the human part of the battles. It is an interesting and rich story of courage, dedication to duty, and frailities of the leaders. In my opinion, it the human component that makes the tale even more compelling to find out more.

If you want to know more, you can visit my web site http://www.battlesforguadalcanal.com/ to learn more about this momentous time in world history and, hopefully, decide to purchase a copy of my book. I hope you enjoy the experience.
